When to take children to the dentist
There are lots of people out there that are wondering the same thing about when to take children to the dentist. When is the right time to take children to the dentist? Everyone knows that children should go to the dentist. But when is the right time to take them for the first time? Do they need to take their children to the dentist before they get permanent teeth if their baby teeth are going to fall out anyway?
All of these questions are very good questions and they all have answers. Many children go to the dentist 2 or 3 years later than they should. Some dentists say that children should go to the dentist after getting their first tooth or at least by their first birthday. According to the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry they say the rule of thumb to go by is first visit by first birthday.
You want to make sure that when you take your children to the dentist for the first time that the dentist you are seeing specializes in children dentistry also known as pediatric dentistry. Pediatric dentists specialize in children so Pediatric dentists are more opt to giving out more accurate information on children cause this is what they specialize in. They also will tend to be more patient and show children what they are going to do before they do it. They will also introduce them to the dentist chair and show them around to make sure that kids will be comfortable with their surroundings. If you decide to go to your local dentist they might forget that your child has never gone to the dentist and over look things that your children might consider very important details.
On a child's first exam the dentist will check the teeth they have and make sure the gums look good. The dentist will then make sure to tell you precautions to take to prevent future cavities from forming and other tips to help you out. For instance if your water does not have fluoride the dentist might recommend fluoride drops. The dentist will provide little helpful hints that can help you along the way. The dentist will also help guide you in what to do when your children get future teeth or when they are losing their teeth.
You need to take your children to the dentist even if they only have their baby teeth. The reason you need to take them is because they still need to use their teeth to chew and eat. You need to make sure to keep their teeth healthy because even though their teeth are just baby ones they are the only ones they have for the time being so they need to be well taken care of.
Make sure to take your children to the dentist every six months or when your dentist recommends it. Taking your children to the dentist every six months gives the dentist a chance to help detect problems before it is too late. For instance if the dentist sees a tooth that looks like it might become a cavity the dentist can stop it.
Knowing when to take your children to the dentist will save you a lot of money in the end. You also want to make sure that your children have good oral care along with going to the dentist. Making sure that your children are brushing and flossing will help reduce
cavities and plaque.
