How to teach your children to brush effectively

Teaching your children to brush effectively is a very important thing to do. Teaching your children to brush effectively will stick with them for years to come. Just like when you teach them how to tie their shoes they usually stick to that routine and it is hard to break a routine once it has been learned. So teach your children the correct way to brush effectively the first time so they won't have to be re learned how to brush effectively later on in life.

You want to make the way you teach your children to brush effectively is fun. You want them to want to learn how to brush effectively. If brushing teeth is forced upon children they might not take the time to pay attention and learn the effective ways of brushing their teeth. So make a game out of it. Or buy a book that talks about brushing teeth. This will help them see that it is a fun to brush their teeth, and it is not a punishment.

Another way to teach your children to brush effectively is to show and tell them about the different layers of a tooth and what happens when we do not brush effectively. Start with a picture of a tooth and show them the outer part of the tooth that the enamel is on then draw a second layer and show them that it is where the dentin is, then draw another layer deeper down and explain that is the pulp or where the nerves of the tooth are. This will help them better understand a tooth. Then explain how brushing their teeth will help protect all of those layers of breaking down and getting cavities.

The next thing you can do to teach your children to brush effectively is to show them the correct way of brushing. Show them how you brush the tops of their teeth were all of the chewing takes place. Show them how to brush the tops of their teeth with back and forth motions very vigorously to make sure to get all of the debris that has been left behind. Next show them how to brush the back and front of their teeth in a circular motion making sure to cover all of the tooth area by brushing two to three teeth at a time. Next show them how to brush their tongue. Brushing their tongue brushes away bacteria's that will end up on their teeth making plaque. Make sure to teach your children how to brush effectively by brushing their teeth for 3 to 4 minutes. This will help them to make sure that all teeth surfaces have been brushed effectively and nothing has been missed.

When teaching your children to brush effectively also let them know the effects if they do not brush effectively. Let them know that if they do not brush their teeth that cavities will form and tooth decay. They can even get gum disease such a gingivitis that can then turn into other disease that start breaking down teeth and the bones below.

Teaching your children to brush effectively will help them learn good habits. This will also get children to start noticing what they do when they brush. Teaching your children to brush effectively will also save you a lot of money in dental bills that would have to be paid out for cavities. So save yourself and your children the toothache of having to deal with more cavities then they need too. Teach them to brush effectively. In the end they will appreciate it.
