Zoom teeth whitening, effects on your teeth?

Zoom teeth whitening is a procedure that is done at your convenience, right in your dentists office. Zoom teeth whitening is what was used on extreme make over. Zoom teeth whitening is known for getting your teeth the whitest white they have ever been. Zoom teeth whitening is a process that consists of your dentist or dental assistant using a whitening gel that contains hydrogen peroxide that is placed on your teeth and stays on for 3 to fifteen minutes per session. Then the dentist or dental assistant uses a laser light that produces a little bit of heat that is shined on your teeth. The whitening gel and a laser light work together to break up build up on your teeth that cause stains and discolorations without removing any of the tooth surfaces. After you have under gone the zoom teeth whitening treatment the dentist or dental assistant will then apply a fluoride treatment to finish the procedure.  Zoom teeth whitening treatment whitens teeth up to ten shades whiter. The whole process takes around an hour to complete.

The side effect that zoom teeth whitening has is increased tooth sensitivity to cold and hot during treatments. Usually these side effects go away within 1 to 3 days after treatment. You can also ask your dentist to recommend or even prescribe you anti-sensitivity tooth past before you have the zoom teeth whitening done as a precaution. You can also wait till after the zoom teeth whitening procedure to see if you have any side effect. If any side effect occur after the Zoom teeth whitening then you can then consult your dentist and get treatment,

When having the zoom teeth whitening treatment done the dentist or dental assistant must make sure all of the soft tissues around ones mouth are protected. The person performing the zoom teeth whitening procedure needs to monitor to make sure that exposed skin is protected also. If the zoom teeth whitening gel does come in contact with your gums or soft tissue it can cause some irritation.

Zoom teeth whitening will not whiten any dental work you have had done such as porcelain crowns, bridges, veneers, or porcelain fillings. All of these will stay the same color and will not match evenly with the color of your other teeth.

You will have to follow up with zoom teeth whitening treatment to keep your teeth white for years to come. Your teeth will always be whiter than they were before you did zoom teeth whitening. To keep your teeth at their whitest use the Zoom teeth whitening touch up treatments. Zoom teeth whitening treatments can be done at home either at night or on the weekends.

Different result using zoom teeth whitening varies from person to person. Having a thorough exam by your dentist will tell you if you are a candidate to have the Zoom teeth whitening procedure done.

Zoom teeth whitening treatment is safe for the most part and effective. Your teeth will be white but you need to do a little up keeping. To keep them white just make sure to do the touch ups. If you have any other problems after using zoom teeth whitening consult your dentist.

If you want more information about the zoom teeth whitening process or to see if you are a candidate that qualifies for zoom teeth whitening, call your dentist and schedule an appointment. If you don't have a dentist that offers Zoom teeth whitening you can always go online.

Why choose sedation dentistry

Some people raise the question why choose sedation dentistry? Before we go into why to choose sedation dentistry lets go over exactly what sedation dentistry is. Sedation dentistry is the administering of local anesthetic such as nitrous oxide. Sedation dentistry is extremely safe and helps make dental care pain free. Sedation dentistry usually just involves sticking a container over your nose that is kind of like oxygen but is mixed with nitrous oxide. You usually get to pick a flavor of container that the nitrous oxide goes through so you get to smell a good smell like strawberries or bubble gum.

Lots of people recommend sedation dentistry when it comes to their children. Sedation dentistry helps relax children and make it a more pleasant experience. Sedation dentistry helps children not to feel any pain and the dentist gets to look over everything that needs to be looked over very carefully with out having to fight to even get a glimpse inside your child's mouth. If a dentist is having to fight to see children's teeth there is a chance that something might get looked over or missed because of the situation. Sedation dentistry give the dentist a chance to make sure everything has been checked and not feel rushed. Also choosing sedation dentistry for your children will help if they have to have dental work done such as having cavities filled. Sedation dentistry will make it so they can sleep or watch a movie when they are getting their cavities filled because they will not be feeling any pain associated with getting their cavities filled. Sedation dentistry usually isn't a traumatic experience for children. Children usually think it is oxygen that helps them breath better.

If you have put off going to the dentist cause you don't look forward to the pain that is associated with the dentist and dental work then you should think about choosing sedation dentistry. Some adults choose sedation dentistry because of the fact that they are nervous when they go to the dentist and they don't like pain. Choosing sedation dentistry will help them to feel more relaxed and they won't have to be all up tight about feeling the pain because as far as there concerned there is no pain.

Another reason to choose sedation dentistry is if you feel anxiety when you go to the dentist. If you are one that feels anxiety just at the thought of going to the dentist you probably have oral anxiety. If you have oral anxiety you should think about choosing sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry takes away the anxiety and helps you feel completely relaxed. Sedation dentistry will take away all of your worries so you can just sit and relax.

Choosing sedation dentistry can be a good thing. Sedation dentistry is completely safe and you can tell your dentist if you feel like you are getting to much nitrous oxide or whatever your dentist uses for sedation dentistry of if you are not getting enough. This lets you be completely in control of how much or how little you want to feel the pain, how much anxiety you want to have. It is all up to you whether or not you choose sedation dentistry. Some people like it some people don't it is a personal preference that you have to decide on. If you have questions about sedation dentistry make sure to ask your dentist for more details and information.

White fillings versus silver

White fillings versus silver fillings are a huge topic of conversation these days among dentists.

Some dentists feel that silver fillings are hazarders to ones health. They believe that silver fillings are made of metals that are unhealthy to your body and should be replaced. Some dentists believe that Silver fillings also known as amalgam fillings do more harm that good for your teeth. Amalgam fillings contain about 50% mercury, 35% silver, 13% tin and 2% copper. Some dentist's feel that the mercury that is contained in these are is causing illnesses in people and they are telling you to get these replaced. Other dentists believe that silver fillings do not fit well in your teeth. Over time silver fillings expand causing cracks and fracture in your teeth. Silver fillings over time also leak mercury causing the filling to turn from silver to black. Some dentists consider this hazard's because the mercury is leaking out. Silver fillings were made before the days that people tested products before using them. This is why silver fillings are believed to be hazards because they were not tested before hand. Silver fillings after they crack are not as sufficient because tooth decay can get underneath the filling and cause problems with out you even knowing anything is wrong. Silver fillings also are very strong themselves but as far as your teeth are concerned they are very weak after having silver fillings put in. Silver fillings are usually less expensive. Silver fillings do not take any special training on the dentist part to out in. Silver fillings are also very sensitive to hot and cold and certain tings you eat. Silver fillings can send a zing through your mouth when you least expect it.

White fillings on the other hand are very well talked about. White fillings also known as porcelain fillings adhere to your teeth better and fit your teeth better. This helps to make sure that the white fillings stay in place and do not crack. Having white fillings not crack causes there to be no way for tooth decay to get underneath the white filling. White fillings also restore most of the original strength to teeth. White teeth also bring back the look of natural teeth before they had cavities. White fillings can become weaker though. Too much alcohol consumption can weaken the white fillings. If you drink very heavily you will find that white fillings will deteriorate prematurely.

Whether you decide to go with white are silver feelings there are both pros and cons to both. It is just deciding which you think is better in your mind. If you are still undecided about what fillings you want to go with either silver or white contact your dentist. You dentist can help you decide which ones and give you in detail facts about both what and silver fillings. Your dentist also might lean one way more than the other depending on what studies he or she has read and what they have had experience in the past with. So make sure to do a lot of research and then go and discuss with your dentist, which one they think would be best white fillings or silver fillings. Some dentist might go with silver just for the fact that they don't have the special training needed to do white fillings. So make sure to ask your dentist appropriate questions to get a feel for what they think are best.

5 reasons to get white composite fillings

With the advances in today's technology dental work is getting better and better. It used to be the only way to fill in a cavity was with silver fillings, but today we now have more options than ever. Many people are concerned that if they have to have fillings to correct tooth decay they want them to look as natural as possible. Silver fillings are no longer the norm. People are self-conscious about smiling with a mouth that might glitter in the sunlight, with white composite fillings people can smile easier and not worry about how their mouth looks.

If you need to have fillings your dentist should inform you of the fact that you have a choice of white composite fillings or silver amalgam fillings. If they fail to do this they are not performing their legal duty.

Following are five reasons you should get white composite fillings instead of silver amalgam fillings.

Reason one:
They bond to the tooth. Since white composite fillings are bonded to the tooth they actually restore majority of the original tooth's strength. This will help prevent your teeth from breaking in the future. When you have a cavity the dentist has to drill out the damaged part of the tooth, which tends to weaken the tooth. Silver fillings actually further weaken the tooth, which increases your chances of breaking the tooth later in life. Broken teeth can cost a lot of money to fix, so nobody wants to increase their chances of breaking a tooth. White composite fillings can actually help save you money in the long run.

Reason two:
White composite fillings restore your natural look. Your teeth are naturally white so why not keep them looking that way. People who use white composite fillings have more confidence in their smile because there is no way to tell that they have had teeth filled. This added confidence can make them more comfortable in social and business settings because by using white fillings instead of silver they are improving their appearance.

Reason three:
If your white composite fillings are done correctly your teeth will not be as sensitive to hot and cold. For people with sensitive teeth already this can be an added benefit. Because silver is a metal extreme temperatures directly affect the metal causing you to wince in pain if you bite into a frozen treat or taking a sip of something hot to drink. Nobody wants to experience that kind of pain, eating should be as painless as possible, you should be able to enjoy a hot drink on a cold day or a frozen treat on a hot day

Reason four:
White composite fillings are not made with mercury. Some people view mercury as being toxic, which if you think about it is. In the older days mercury was used in a variety of health care tools, such as thermometers, but in today's world you do not see the use of mercury thermometers, unless your parents or grandparents happen to have one. Mercury is being phased out because of how dangerous it can be.

Reason five:
White composite fillings require less removal of the tooth structure. If you are having your old fillings replaced with white composite fillings this will not matter since the structure has already been removed, but it makes a huge amount of difference in new cavities. The smaller amount of tooth that has to be removed is vital in keeping your teeth stronger. By removing a large amount of the tooth the dentist is weakening that tooth which can lead to broken teeth. See reason one for more information on broken teeth.

When to take children to the dentist

There are lots of people out there that are wondering the same thing about when to take children to the dentist. When is the right time to take children to the dentist? Everyone knows that children should go to the dentist. But when is the right time to take them for the first time? Do they need to take their children to the dentist before they get permanent teeth if their baby teeth are going to fall out anyway?

All of these questions are very good questions and they all have answers. Many children go to the dentist 2 or 3 years later than they should. Some dentists say that children should go to the dentist after getting their first tooth or at least by their first birthday. According to the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry they say the rule of thumb to go by is first visit by first birthday.

You want to make sure that when you take your children to the dentist for the first time that the dentist you are seeing specializes in children dentistry also known as pediatric dentistry. Pediatric dentists specialize in children so Pediatric dentists are more opt to giving out more accurate information on children cause this is what they specialize in. They also will tend to be more patient and show children what they are going to do before they do it. They will also introduce them to the dentist chair and show them around to make sure that kids will be comfortable with their surroundings. If you decide to go to your local dentist they might forget that your child has never gone to the dentist and over look things that your children might consider very important details.

On a child's first exam the dentist will check the teeth they have and make sure the gums look good. The dentist will then make sure to tell you precautions to take to prevent future cavities from forming and other tips to help you out. For instance if your water does not have fluoride the dentist might recommend fluoride drops. The dentist will provide little helpful hints that can help you along the way. The dentist will also help guide you in what to do when your children get future teeth or when they are losing their teeth.

You need to take your children to the dentist even if they only have their baby teeth. The reason you need to take them is because they still need to use their teeth to chew and eat. You need to make sure to keep their teeth healthy because even though their teeth are just baby ones they are the only ones they have for the time being so they need to be well taken care of.

Make sure to take your children to the dentist every six months or when your dentist recommends it. Taking your children to the dentist every six months gives the dentist a chance to help detect problems before it is too late. For instance if the dentist sees a tooth that looks like it might become a cavity the dentist can stop it.

Knowing when to take your children to the dentist will save you a lot of money in the end. You also want to make sure that your children have good oral care along with going to the dentist. Making sure that your children are brushing and flossing will help reduce
cavities and plaque.

What to do when a filling falls out

Sometimes fillings fall out and there is nothing we can do to prevent it. At least if a filling falls out we can know how to be better prepared ourselves and know what to do about the filing falling out.

When a filling falls out you do not want to stick the filling back in. You want to keep the filling if you can. The dentist can sometimes determine why a filling has fallen out by looking at it. Sometimes a dentist can stick in the old filling instead of having to do a whole new filling. You may get a toothache soon after the filling falls out. The toothache might be cause from a crack in the tooth (that may be the reason for the filling falling out), or getting debris in the hole where the filling has fallen out. You will want to softly brush and floss your teeth to make sure there is no other debris.

If you get a toothache after a filling falls out, try taking an over the counter pain reliever to help with the pain. You can also try to dip a q-tip in oil cloves and rub it on the tooth to help. Oil cloves are supposed to be a natural sedative for the nerve of your tooth. You can also use a temporary dental cement to cover the tooth area and protect the surface from debris and air getting down to the nerve and causing tooth decay and or tooth ache.

Next you will want to take a temporary object such as floss to cover the hole where the filling fell out. You can do this by rubbing the floss between your thumb and your pointer finger and making the floss soft. Then roll it in a ball and then apply to hole to make a protective barrier from debris and air from the nerve that might cause a toothache.

If your tooth is ok and there is not any further damage such as tooth decay. Your dentist will probably just have to go in and clean the area making sure everything looks ok. There is usually some tooth decay around the area where the filing has fallen out. In this case the dentist would go in and clean around that area and replace the filling that has fallen out with a new filling or decide what the best way to fix the tooth will be. If you wait to get the filling that has fallen out replaced it might have to have more extensive work done such as a root canal. So, if your filling falls out or has already fallen out get into see the doctor before you cause yourself and your wallet more headache and money then you have too.

You will want to call the dentist as soon as possible after a filling has fallen out and get the soonest available appointment. There are things that you can do to help with the pain but not getting a filling that has fallen out replaced will make you have more problems. You could have problems such as tooth decay or a severe toothache; you could even get an infection. If you wait to long it will become more expensive that if you would have just gone in and got your filling that had fallen out put back in or replaced. It is very important so I will say it again call your dentist and get an appointment as soon as possible after a filling has fallen out.

What to do in a dental emergency

First things first some dental emergencies can be avoided all together. Having regular dental check ups can help prevent dental emergencies by early detection of gum diseases or cavities that can be taken care of before they become to bug of a problem. For most of us though we wait till we have a ache that hurts so bad we can't stand it any more and that is when we take the initiative to call the dentist.

One dental emergency is a toothache. If you have a toothache it is usually an indication of inflammation or an infection in the tooth. If you have a toothache and can't get into the dentist for a couple of days there are some things you can do to help with the pain. First you can take a pain reliever. If you notice swelling around the tooth, take an anti inflammatory drug. Anti-inflammatory drugs will help with the swelling and maybe relieve some of the pressure on your tooth that the swelling is causing. No toothache will cure itself. Though a tooth might start feeling better if you don't get into the dentist to get it check out it might cause more damage and become a bigger dental emergency next time it happens.

Another type of dental emergency is a broken tooth. If you experience a dental emergency that includes a broken tooth call the dentist and get an appointment as soon as possible. If you have the part of the tooth that has broken off clean it off and take it to the dentist with you. If this piece cannot be bonded back on it will at least help the dentist to re create the piece of tooth that needs to be replaced. It will make the tooth so it looks like the original tooth did before it was broke.

If you have a dental emergency where a tooth gets knocked save the tooth that has been knocked out. Shake off any dirt or debris that may be on it but do not wash or scrub the tooth. Scrubbing or washing the tooth might take off important periodontal ligament. Place in a glass of milk or put that knocked out tooth back in its original socket. Try to get a hole of the dentist with in 30 minutes from the time the tooth was knocked out.

If your dental emergency consists of losing a filling do not try to put the filling back in. Instead cover the whole where the filling goes with a temporary material. This will help from getting anything caught in there. Visit the dentist as soon as possible to get a new filling put in.

If you're dental emergency is losing a crown you will want to try to save it. Crowns can be reused believe it or not. This is a good thing because some times crowns can be very expensive. You can temporarily cement your crown back in using an over the counter remedies such as Vaseline, denture adhesive, or temporary dental cement you can get over-the-counter. You will want to call your dentist as soon as possible. These are quick fixes that will hold temporarily. The sooner you can get into your dentist the better.

You want to make sure that your crown is fixed correctly so you will not have a bigger dental emergency down the road.

When you have a dental emergency that you bite your tongue or your lip apply pressure with a clean cloth to the area that is bleeding. If swelling occurs you will want to put a cold ice pack on it to reduce the swelling. If your lip is cut really bad or your tongue continues to bleed you need to go to the hospital room right away.

When a dental emergency occurs there are small steps you can take to make the situation a little more tolerable. But for most dental emergencies you will want to call your dentist right away and get the soonest appointment available.

Waxed or weaved, which floss is best?

Which is the best to use when flossing waxed or weaved floss? What is the difference between the two?  Which one is believed to be the best?

Flossing is a very important thing when it comes to dental hygiene. Dental floss helps remove the debris that is caught in between teeth. Flossing also helps remove plaque. Plaque is formed of bacteria on teeth and get in between teeth. If plaque is not removed by flossing it hardens into what is considered tartar. If tartar forms, one can get gingivitis. Gingivitis is a gum disease that causes inflammation of gums and will cause soreness and bleeding. If one flosses it helps break up the bacteria also known as plaque so tartar does not form.

Waxed floss is made of either nylon or also known as multifilament floss or PTFE which is monofilament floss. When using waxed nylon floss it has a tendency to get caught in ones teeth if your teeth are crooked or crowded together. This causes the waxed nylon floss to get stuck and or snagged and usually tears or shreds.

Waxed PTFE floss is better to use if one has crowded or crooked teeth. Waxed floss glides through crowded or crooked teeth without getting stuck or snagged. Just like waxed nylon floss weaved floss does not glide through crowded or crooked teeth easily either. Weaved floss usually gets stuck or snagged and usually tears or shreds.
Waxed dental floss also comes in variety of flavors. It comes in flavors from mint, cinnamon, to bubble gum depending on ones preference.

Weaved dental floss can be more helpful when you have straight teeth. It is stronger than some of the single stranded waxed dental flosses. If your teeth are straight or are not crowded together weaved floss should glide through without any problems. It might squeak do to the fact that is does not have any wax on it to coat the strands.

It all comes down to preference in the long run. Waxed dental floss might work better for one person because the way their teeth are situated it might be easier to handle and glide through their teeth with out getting stuck or breaking. Others might prefer weaved dental floss because their teeth allow the floss to maneuver through their teeth just fine because of how their teeth are situated.

Just remember to floss no matter what type of floss you decide to go with. Brushing your teeth is not enough. Flossing helps reduce your risk of getting cavities. Flossing your teeth helps with preventing bad breath. Flossing also helps prevent against gum disease such as gingivitis. Try waxed dental floss and then try weaved dental floss. Try a couple different brands of both waxed floss and weaved and decide which one works the best for you. Less expensive flosses might not have as many stands or might have more wax than they do actually strands of floss. Make sure to watch out and pick the best weaved or waxed floss for your money. Don't worry about using to much waxed or weaved floss when flossing. If more gets you to floss that is all that matters.

When it comes down to what floss is better weaved floss or waxed floss it is person preference. So get out there and find the right dental floss that works best for you whether it be waxed or weaved floss.

Using sedation dentistry for children

Using sedation dentistry for children is something that is highly debated among people. A lot of children are traumatized from experiences they have at the dentist office. Some children are scared because they are in a new place with strangers that are prying open their mouths. Then these strangers want to stick tools that make horrible noises inside their mouth.

Using sedation dentistry for children will help your children feel at ease when they are at the dentist. Using sedation dentistry for children can help their teeth get the best care they can. If a dentist is not fighting to keep the child in the dentist chair while struggling with the child to keep there mouth open you will have a better chance that your children will be well examined. Using sedation dentistry helps to calm children down and to help them relax. Using sedation dentistry for children helps the dentist do their job better. Dentists are more able to take their time and look over every tooth and in between to make sure that nothing has been looked over or missed. Using sedation dentistry will also help in the event that your child has to have a cavity filled or their teeth worked on. Sedation dentistry will make it so that your child will not feel any pain during the procedure of having a cavity filled or their teeth worked on.

Some dentists even recommend using sedations dentistry for children when having their routine teeth cleaning. Dentists recommend sedation dentistry because it helps your children relax so every tooth gets cleaned effectively.

Sedation dentistry for children is not a traumatic event. Sedation dentistry for children most of the time consists of nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is safe and easy to administer. Nitrous oxide is administered through the nose. A nosepiece is put on your child that looks similar to an oxygen mask. Most dentist offer different flavors of nosepieces that the children can choose from. Letting the children choose the flavor of the nosepiece helps the children to get excited and think that they are choosing to have the nosepiece on their nose instead of having the decision forced upon them. Once your child has picked a flavor of nosepiece it is connect with one side being connected to oxygen and the other side being connected to the nitrous oxide. The dentist can then manage the level of nitrous oxide that is filter through the nosepiece. Plus instead of the children smelling the nitrous oxide the get to smell the flavor of nosepiece they picked out. This is just one way that sedation dentistry for children is administered. But most of the sedation dentistry for children is not traumatic.

There are no long-term side effects that stem from sedation dentistry for children. Some children might act a little loopy during the sedation dentistry but that is because they are so relaxed and at ease.

Sedation dentistry for children is a safe and effective way to help children feel comfortable at the dentist. Children that have pleasant experiences at the dentist grow up not having anxiety towards dentists and dentist office. Children that have had traumatic experiences tend to dislike the dentist and put off going as long as possible. For more information on sedation dentistry talk you your dentist and have him or her explain exactly what kind of sedation dentistry for children they offer and how it is administered to make sure you know what to expect and there will be no surprises if you decide to do sedation dentistry for children.

How often should you get your teeth cleaned?

Many people wonder how often they should get their teeth cleaned. The answer to that is not a simple answer. A lot of factors go into deciding how often you should get your teeth cleaned. When you go into the dentist's office for a check up your dentist will discuss a plan with you, depending on what they find. They could recommend you come in once a month, twice a year, or once a year.

When deciding how often to clean your teeth dentists will look at the health of your teeth and gums, if they are healthy and you are a healthy person they might recommend coming in once every twelve to twenty-four months to have them professionally cleaned. Some other factors they take into consideration are: medical conditions, such as diabetes and HIV infection, your oral hygiene habits, how fast you accumulate deposits on your teeth, your age, and whether or not you smoke. Depending on what they find your dentist may recommend you come in more often for professional teeth cleaning.

Most dental insurance plans provide you with two dentist visits a year, sometimes fully paid for, sometimes at a discount. At these visits dentists will give you a complete check up and professional cleaning. The professional cleaning it will remove plaque, which is the soft build up on your teeth, and tartar, calculus, or stains, which are the hard deposits that build on your teeth that regular oral hygiene, will not remove.

While getting your teeth professional cleaned at least twice a year is good hygiene practice it does not guarantee the health of your teeth. Dentists or a dental hygienist will clean your teeth, but depending on some of your habits. For example if you smoke or drink a high amount of caffeinated drinks, including coffee and soda, your teeth will become stained. Depending on the amount of use your dentist or hygienist might not be able to remove all of the stains just by cleaning your teeth. They might recommend that you use a teeth whitening procedure, as well as getting cleanings twice a year.

Teeth cleaning is used to prevent or slow the progression of periodontal diseases. Periodontal diseases are any diseases that affect the tissues (gums) or structures (jaw bone) surrounding and supporting the teeth. Nothing is guaranteed to prevent periodontal diseases but having your teeth cleaned, not smoking, and practicing good oral hygiene are the most effective ways to prevent them.

Getting your teeth cleaned twice a year or more also has other advantages. When your dentist is cleaning your teeth they are also checking for oral cancer. Like some other cancers the sooner you detect oral cancer the better your chances of having it cured. Another advantage of getting your teeth cleaned twice a year is the detection of early dental problems, the sooner the dentist spots the problem, the better your chances of getting them fixed before you lose your adult teeth.

Although you might only go to the dentist twice a year to get the plaque and tartar build up removed by brushing properly at home you can remove a lot of the plaque yourself. Practicing good oral hygiene between visits might be the main difference between keeping your teeth and losing them.

The best idea is to start going to the dentist at an early age. By taking your kids in regularly for teeth cleaning you are teaching them that taking care of their teeth is important and they will be more likely to continue those visits when they become adults.
